TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATION
When is the travel grant application deadline?
Travel grant applications are due August 23, 2013 by midnight.
Who should apply for a travel grant?
Faculty members are encouraged to apply for a travel grant.
Can Post Doctoral Fellows apply for a travel grant?
We have limited funding to assist with the cost of registration for Post-Doctoral Fellows. If you wish to apply for funding, please send a request to Porsche Townsend, email@example.com prior to submitting a travel grant application. Post- Doctoral Fellows are required to present a research poster to be considered for an award.
I am a graduate student; do I qualify for a travel grant?
No. Travel grants are for faculty members. We have limited support available for Post- doctoral Fellows.
Do I have to register for the conference before submitting my application?
No. You do not have to register for the conference in order to have your application considered for a travel grant.
What does the travel grant cover?
The travel grant covers lodging through conference dates, materials, and meals.
Travel Grant Application Requirements
Am I required to present of research poster to be eligible for a travel grant?
Only Post-Doctoral Fellows are required to present a research poster to qualify for a travel grant.
How do I verify that I submitted a travel grant application?
Upon submitting your application, your screen will be directed to a confirmation page. Please print for your records. Additionally, you will receive a confirmation email with conference registration instructions. If you do not receive a confirmation email, contact Porsche Townsend, firstname.lastname@example.org, as soon as possible.
What are my chances of receiving a travel grant?
Our goal is to provide support to all eligible participants. Travel grants will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
When will I know if my application has been accepted or not?
Award letters will be emailed within seven business days from the receipt of application.
Is there a waitlist in case some participants do not fulfill the requirements of the travel grant award?
ADVANCE Purdue will compile a waitlist of applications that are complete. Those on the waitlist will be notified as funding becomes available.
What if I do not receive the travel grant award?
ADVANCE Purdue strongly encourages you to seek alternative support through your institution, department, or other funding agencies.
Is funding available to cover the cost of transportation?
Funding is not available to cover the cost of transportation. ADVANCE Purdue strongly encourages you to seek travel support through your institution, department, or other funding agencies.
How is my lodging arranged?
You do not need to arrange your own lodging if you pay the full registration ($250) for the conference. ADVANCE Purdue will arrange your lodging based on the information provided in the application at the time of submission. After you complete your registration submit a registration payment for the conference, ADVANCE Purdue will book your lodging.
What are the dates I am provided lodging?
Lodging is available for check- in Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 4:00PM and check- out Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 12:00 PM.
Lodging information will be sent to you via e-mail. After lodging is booked, you will be held financially responsible for any cancellation fees and reservation changes.
What hotel am I staying in?
Lodging will be available at the Embassy Suites Indianapolis Downtown.
Do I get my own room?
Yes. All participants will receive a single room.
Conference Registration and Cancellation Policies
I was awarded a travel grant and registered for the conference. How do I cancel my registration?
All cancellation requests must be done in writing. Contact Porsche Townsend via e-mail, email@example.com , immediately to cancel your travel award and conference registration.
I am going to cancel my registration. Can you just transfer it to a colleague mine?
Yes, please contact Porsche Townsend via email, firstname.lastname@example.org , to process changes. Registration transfers will not be accepted after September 13, 2013.
My travel grant was approved; what do I need to do to accept my award?
Refer to your award notification email for all details. To confirm your award, register for the conference by the deadline date in your notification email.
What happens if I do not register by the required deadlines?
If you do not register by the deadline stated in your award notification, your award will be withdrawn and given to the first person on our waitlist.
- Posters must be a maximum of 36 inches wide. You will have a 3 foot wide bulletin board space to pin up your poster.
- Do NOT mount them to backing; they will be pinned up for display.
WOC STEM HUB
Am I required to register for the WOC STEM HUB?
Usage of the WOC STEM HUB will be fully integrated into conference activities. To enhance your experience at the conference, creating your account prior to the conference is strongly encouraged.
I attended the ADVANCE Purdue 2012 Women of Color Faculty in STEM Conference. Do I already have a WOC STEM HUB account?
Yes. If you have forgotten your username or password, please follow the prompts on the main page to reset the account.

Will I be required to bring my own computer or tablet to the conference?
Yes. We will have a very limited number of computers available for participants to use.
Will WIFI be available at the conference?
Yes. Free WIFI is available to all participants.
