Nearly 800 papers were submitted for consideration and presentations from Dr. Ian Buckle, University of Nevada, Reno, “NEES Research Highlights 2004-2009”; Dr. Shirley J. Dyke, Purdue University, “2020 Vision for Earthquake Engineering Research: Report on an OpenSpace Technology Workshop of the Future of Earthquake Engineering”; Dr. Thomas Hacker, Purdue University, Dr. Rudi Eigenmann, Purdue, and Dr. Ellen Rathje, University of Texas, Austin, “NEES Cyberinfrastructure: A Foundation for Innovative Research and Education”; Dr. Julio A. Ramirez, Purdue University, “International Collaboration-Networking the Earthquake Engineering Research Community into a Global Framework”, and Dr. Thalia Anagnos, San Jose’ State University, and Dr. Sean Brophy, Purdue University, “NEESAcademy: An Educational Cyberinfrastructure for the Earthquake engineering Community” were among those accepted for presentation.
The conference provided an opportunity for both researchers and practitioners to share the latest knowledge and techniques for understanding and mitigating the effects of earthquakes. This was the first time that a conference of this scale was organized jointly by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) and the Canadian Association for Earthquake Engineering (CAEE).
The conference brought together professionals from a broad range of disciplines, including architecture, structural engineering, seismology, geology, geophysics, geotechnical engineering, social response, regional planning, emergency response planning, and regulation.
