Dr. Eckhard Groll is a professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. He is also the Director of Global Initiatives, Co-operative Education and Professional Experiences in the School of Mechanical Engineering and currently serves as the Interim Director of the Office of Professional Practice in the College of Engineering. He is a Fellow of ASHRAE and a member of ASEE, IIR, and DKV. He serves as the U.S. Editor of the International Journal of Refrigeration. Dr. Groll has received several awards in support of his teaching excellence. In particular, he is a Fellow of the Purdue Teaching Academy and received the 2005 Charles B. Murphy Award for outstanding undergraduate teaching at Purdue University. Dr. Groll has also been recognized for his research. In particular, he received the University Faculty Scholar Award and two young investigator awards. His research interest focuses on the fundamental thermal sciences as applied to advanced HVAC&R systems, components, and working fluids. Since joining Purdue, he has been the principal investigator (PI) or Co-PI of 66 research projects with a total budget of $4.6 million from various agencies, including the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Institute (ARTI), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the California Energy Commission (CEC), the Cooling Technologies Research Center (CTRC) at Purdue University, the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, and eighteen HVAC&R companies. Dr. Groll has authored or co-authored 50 archival journal articles and 95 conference papers. He has contributed to two books, and edited seven conference proceedings.
