Dr. Krishnan received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2000 with a specialization in gas dynamics and combustion. His thesis was related to optical characterization of soot from turbulent diffusion flames.

He is a member of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) and Faculty Advisor for the student branch of AIAA. Dr. Krishnan conducts research in areas of heating and cooling applications, design of heat recovery and cogeneration systems, and optical and infrared diagnostics in relation to combustion, emissions and other applications. He is Adjunct Faculty at Purdue University, West Lafayette and co-advises PhD students in Mechanical Engineering and Food Science Departments. He collaborates with researchers at Purdue University, W. Lafayette, NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, OH and with Cummins Engine Company, Columbus, IN. His recent projects include a NASA-funded project on the effects of gravity and oxygen on flames, a Cummins funded project involving design of cooling and waste heat recovery systems for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). Dr. Krishnan has published a number of technical papers and reports in these areas and holds patents related to infrared sensing in biological fluids and foods. His other interests include renewable energy, energy efficiency, emissions monitoring and engineering education
