Robots as Co-Workers: The future of Collaborative Robotics

April 8 @ 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM - Loeb Playhouse, in Stewart Center

Rod Brooks, professor of robotics at MIT, co-founder of iRobot, and the mastermind behind the Roomba is again revolutionizing robotics.

Brooks is now chief evangelist at Rethink Robotics Corp. His latest masterpiece is "Baxter." Baxter is a new, low-cost robot that is being adopted in a variety of production environments. The two armed 7 DOF per arm robot has been made available to researchers as they believe that once there are thousands of people with access to open source manipulators, those individuals will invent all sorts of new applications for robots.

Brooks will have Baxter with him at this presentation.

Juan Wachs, assistant professor of industrial engineering and RCHE affiliated faculty member, will co-host and will demonstrate his own achievement, the robotic scrub nurse.
