November 20, 2009
Representatives from the USDOT’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration recently visited Purdue University for a NEXTRANS Center site visit on November 17, 2009.
This visit provided an opportunity for NEXTRANS to showcase its accomplishments since being awarded its grant from RITA in 2007, as well as provide an overview of its management approach; partner universities; grant administration; institutional support; and research, education, and technology transfer activities.
RITA representatives Amy Stearns, Robin Kline, and Keith Gates were able to interact with NEXTRANS students, members of the Executive Committee and Advisory Council, Center staff, funded and affiliated faculty, and Purdue University officials.
Highlights of the day included:
- Poster presentations created by graduate and undergraduate students illustrating the purpose, significance, and results of a variety of NEXTRANS-funded research projects.
- Presentations by students and teachers from Crawfordsville High School detailing their participation in NEXTRANS-sponsored programs and events, as well as their commitment to a problem-based learning project aimed at promoting greater use of their local Amtrak station.
- Luncheon program for students, faculty, staff, and guests, featuring an awards ceremony and remarks by Director Peeta and Deputy Administrator Joe Gustin (INDOT).
- Brief readings by the winners of the 2009 NEXTRANS Indiana High School Essay Competition.
