Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology named provider of choice for cancer care

In the ongoing efforts to promote overall health and wellness and in support of the Healthy Boiler Program, Human Resources-Benefits announces that Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology (FWMOH) is recognized as the provider of choice for cancer care for Purdue employees. FWMOH is a Tier 1 provider within Purdue’s health plan coverage.

As an independent, community cancer-care center not affiliated with any hospital network, patients can choose services at FWMOH and do not need a referral from another provider.

Focused on providing the very best cancer care to patients, FWMOH includes the following as part of its value-based care model:

  • Experienced oncologists, mid-level providers, support team and research team
  • High-quality care with less financial impact
  • Treatment planning around you – your life, your needs and your comfort
  • 24-7 access via appointment-free walk-in clinics
  • 24-7-365 patient hotline
  • Locations in 13 counties in northeast Indiana
  • Patient navigators/social workers
  • Palliative care
  • Clinical trial opportunities
  • Weekend hours
  • And more

“We believe in cutting-edge science but are also committed to value and acknowledge the unsustainable rising medical cost,” said Lakshmi Aggarwal, oncologist at FWMOH. “When the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services launched the value-based program OCM, or Oncology Care Model, we signed up. In fact, ours was the only group in Indiana that completed the six years of the model, and our data shows that we not only were top quality but were able to achieve shared savings.”

Serving the Fort Wayne area and surrounding counties, FWMOH has 13 locations in northeast Indiana. A map and list of locations are available here. Additionally, FWMOH has announced plans to expand services to a building now beginning renovation near downtown Warsaw, with services expected to begin this summer. “Via our partnership with FWMOH, employees have access to a comprehensive cancer-care team, which provides top quality care and assistance if they have to navigate a cancer diagnosis,” said Candace Shaffer, senior director of benefits in Human Resources. “We hope the Purdue community will find this partnership beneficial and one that they will feel comfortable using if needed.”
