Purdue Theatre to present 'As You Like It'

November 4, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue Theatre will continue its 2015-2016 season with Shakespeare’s "As You Like It," beginning Friday (Nov. 13) at the Nancy T. Hansen Theatre in Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts.

“As You Like It” is a lighthearted comedy that shows the perils of court versus the pleasure of the forest and the delights and deceptions of love. Unjustly deposed by his younger brother, the rightful duke retreats to the Forest of Arden and forms a Utopia with his loyal followers while his daughter remains at court as a companion to her cousin.

When forbidden romance enters their lives, the girls assume disguises and flee to the forest, where they encounter friendly outlaws and wise fools. “As You Like It” sparkles with wit and poetry in its celebration of love as a force for happiness and fulfillment, said director Kristine Holtvedt, associate professor of theatre at Purdue University.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13, 14, 18, 19, 20 and 21. Matinees also will be offered at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 15, 21 and 22. Tickets are $19.50 for the general public, $12.50 for students and $15.50 for seniors ages 62 and older.

A special preview performance of “As You Like It” will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12, with all seats $6.50 general admission.
