Washington Post columnist George Will to take part in Presidential Lecture Series

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.— Washington Post columnist George Will and Purdue President Mitch Daniels will lead an hourlong discussion, including an audience question and answer session, in the next Purdue Presidential Lecture Series event.
The event will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. It is free and open to the general public, and no ticket is required for entry.
Will's newspaper column has been syndicated by The Washington Post since 1974. It appears twice weekly in more than 475 newspapers. For 35 years, he was a regular contributing editor of Newsweek magazine. In 1977 he won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary in his newspaper columns.
Eight collections of Will's Newsweek and Washington Post columns have been published, including "One Man's America: The Pleasures and Provocations of Our Singular Nation." He has also published three books on political theory, "Statecraft as Soulcraft: What Government Does," "The New Season: A Spectator's Guide to the 1988 Election" and "Restoration: Congress, Term Limits and The Recovery of Deliberative Democracy."
Will has written three books on baseball. In 1990, he published "Men At Work: The Craft of Baseball," which topped the New York Times bestseller list for two months. His other baseball books include "Bunts: Curt Flood, Camden Yards, Pete Rose and Other Reflections on Baseball" and "A Nice Little Place on the North Side: Wrigley Field at One Hundred." In 2000 he was a member of Major League Baseball's panel that examined baseball economics.
For 32 years, beginning as a founding member in 1981, he was a panelist on ABC's "This Week." In 2013 he became a contributor to FOX News' daytime and primetime programming.
Will was born in Champaign, Illinois, educated at Trinity College, Oxford University and Princeton University, where he earned his doctorate and served as a trustee. He taught political philosophy at Michigan State University, the University of Toronto and Harvard University. Will served as a staff member in the U.S. Senate from 1970-1972. From 1973-1976 he was the Washington editor of National Review magazine. Will lives and works in Washington, D.C.

The Presidential Lecture Series is a diverse series of lectures on policy, leadership, culture and society. The series will feature prominent experts and practitioners from various fields of interest for both the academics and the community at-large. Connected with each public presentation, speakers will be integrated into relevant curricular activities on the West Lafayette campus during their visits. The series will also add speakers at various points during the year.
