Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

-  Research by a Purdue professor was chosen as one of 2015's top technical advances by The Scientist magazine. The research was performed by Ji-Xin Cheng, a professor in Purdue's Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Chemistry and scientific director of the Label-free Imaging lab at Purdue's Discovery Park. A team led by Cheng demonstrated a new type of imaging system that reveals the chemical composition of living tissue for medical diagnostics and cellular studies. A research paper about the work was published in October in the journal Science Advances, and it was featured in a Purdue news release.

- CRDF Global named Tomás Díaz de la Rubia, chief scientist and executive director of Discovery Park, to its board of directors. Diaz de la Rubia's four-year term began this month. CRDF Global is an independent, nonprofit organization established to promote international scientific and technical collaboration through grants, technical resources, training and services. The organization manages international research funding programs and supports emerging science and technology infrastructure in more than 40 countries. William Colglazier, a visiting scientist and senior scholar in the Center for Science Diplomacy at the American Association for the Advancement of Science and former science and technology adviser to the Secretary of State, and Maxine Savitz, vice chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, also were named to the board.
