Division of Financial Aid reminds students to file FAFSA

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - All current and newly admitted students planning to attend Purdue University West Lafayette in the fall of 2016 must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1 to receive priority consideration for federal, state and university-based financial aid.

“A change to the process this year is creating the new FSA ID, a more secure username and password,” said David Reseigh, assistant director of outreach services at Purdue's Division of Financial Aid. “The old PIN will no longer work, so both the student and one parent must separately create an FSA ID to sign and submit the 2016-17 FAFSA.”

Students and families can visit www.fafsa.gov/ to learn more about the new FSA ID process, and to file the FAFSA.

Indiana families can get free FAFSA filing help from financial aid experts at College Goal Sunday on Feb 21, starting at 2 p.m. local time. Families in the Lafayette area can attend at Ivy Tech Community College, Ivy Hall, at 3101 S. Creasy Lane. A complete list of the 42 participating sites around Indiana can be found at www.collegegoalsunday.org/.

"Dependent students age 23 and under should attend the events with their parent(s) or guardian(s) and bring their parents' completed 2015 tax returns, W-2 forms and other 2015 income, asset and benefits information," Reseigh said. "Students who worked in 2015 should also bring their income information. Estimated information can be used on the FAFSA to meet priority filing deadlines, but must be updated once the 2015 taxes are filed.”

The Division of Financial Aid provides financial aid information to students and families through community outreach, via email and online at www.purdue.edu/dfa. The Division of Financial Aid can be reached by calling 765-494-5050 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time, or by emailing facontact@purdue.edu.
