Purdue faces off in academic engineering programs bracket challenge

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University students and faculty are being called on to support the College of Engineering in an academic tournament bracket.

Leah Jamieson, the John A. Edwardson Dean in the College of Engineering, is asking students and faculty to vote for the college as part of the 2016 Academic Engineering Programs Bracket Challenge.

Purdue has progressed through the challenge during the last five weeks, receiving enough votes to win against universities including Cornell and University of California at Berkeley. The College of Engineering now faces Georgia Tech in the finals.

Voting for the finals lasts until midnight Saturday (April 30).

If the College of Engineering wins, it is issued an online design challenge, Jamieson said. All engineering students in the college would be allowed to submit entries in the challenge.

The design challenge begins Wednesday (May 4) and ends June 4. Judges from the challenge's sponsors will determine the winning design. Specific details of the design challenge have not been released.
