Purdue prepares for Wednesday (April 27) visit from Bernie Sanders

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Motorists and pedestrians can expect to see some disruptions Wednesday (April 27) on Purdue's campus as U.S. presidential candidate Bernie Sanders visits the university.

Sanders will speak at the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center. The event is open to the public, and doors will open at 9 a.m. According to the Sanders campaign, this is a ticketed event and those planning to attend can sign up for free tickets at the Sanders campaign website.

The university will be operating on a normal schedule, so campus parking is expected to be extremely limited. Purdue police are urging anyone who can feasibly walk or ride CityBus to do so.

Those choosing to drive should take Northwestern Avenue to Stadium Avenue and park in the gravel lot on the northwest side of the Rankin Track and Field complex and to the north of the recreational sports center. Parking restrictions will be lifted in that area during the day.

Handicapped-accessible parking will be available just behind the center. The general public is to enter through the main entrance off North Martin Jischke Drive, while the ADA entrance will be located at the center's western doors adjacent to the Rankin Track and Field facility.

For security reasons, attendees are asked to not bring bags and limit what they bring to small, personal items like keys and cell phones. Weapons, sharp objects, chairs, and signs or banners on sticks will not be allowed through security.
