Purdue Bands and Orchestras lists October concerts

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —Purdue Bands & Orchestras is rolling out a concert-filled month in October. "Meet the Conductor" and "Cuban Fire" are just two of the many upcoming performances.

Concertgoers have the opportunity to "Meet the Conductor" as the Purdue Wind Ensemble performs at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 2) at the Long Center for Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St. in Lafayette. The ensemble will be led by conductor Jay Gephart, the Al G. Wright Chair and director of bands, and will welcome visiting instructor Douglas R. Fletcher to the podium. The program will feature music of Henry Fillmore, Rossano Galante and many more.

Purdue Bands & Orchestras will be partnering with the Purdue School of Hospitality and Tourism Management to offer student jazz at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 5 and 26 (Wednesdays) at Marriott Hall. Lavazza coffee and gelato are available in the atrium.

Other October concerts are:

* Oct. 1 at 8 p.m.: The Philharmonic and Symphony orchestras will perform at Loeb Playhouse in Stewart Center.

* Oct. 14 at 8 p.m.: The American Music Repertory Ensemble and Purdue Lab Jazz Band will perform "Ain't That a Kick in the Head" at Loeb Playhouse.

* Oct. 15 at 8 p.m.: The Fall Concert Bands will perform at the Long Center for the Performing Arts.

* Oct. 21 at 8 p.m.: The Purdue Jazz Band and Concert Jazz Band will perform "Cuban Fire" at Loeb Playhouse.
