Red Baraat to perform at Global Fest in place of Pat Thomas

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.— Due to unforeseen circumstances Pat Thomas and the Kwashibu Area Band will not perform on Sept. 16 as scheduled. Instead, Red Baraat will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 16 in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms.

Tickets previously purchased for Pat Thomas will still be honored for Red Baratt's performance. Ticket holders wishing to request a refund must do so in person at the Stewart Center Box Office by 5 p.m. Sept. 9.

This performance is presented by Purdue Convocations, with Friends support from Purdue University Dining & Catering, and is a Purdue Convocations contribution to the expanded 2016 Global Fest lineup.

Red Baraat is an eight-piece band from Brooklyn, New York. Conceived by dhol (double-headed drum) player Sunny Jain, the group merges hard-driving North Indian Bhangra with elements of go-go, rock and jazz, fueled by three rhythm makers, horns, a guitar and a sousaphone.

"Livewire," the band's 2016 EP, recorded in-studio at Seattle's KEXP, marks a departure for Red Baraat as their acoustic instrumentation evolves into new sonic spaces. The songs on the EP feature dark electric guitar textures and live e‑ects processing from sousaphone and the dhol, the band's signature instrument. The EP concludes with a bonus track, "Gaadi of Truth," featuring the drumming and remixing talents of The Police's Stewart Copeland.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for those 18 and younger, Purdue students and Ivy Tech Lafayette students. Tickets are available at the Stewart Center box office at 765-494-3933 or 800-914-SHOW. Group tickets are also available to groups of 10 more. Call 765-496-1977 for more details or visit https://purdue.edu/convocations/group-sales/
