Brohm hiring finalized: Board of Trustees approves six-year contract

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University trustees on Friday (Dec. 16) voted to approve the hiring of Jeff Brohm as the Boilermakers' head football coach.

The board's action ratifies Brohm's hiring within terms outlined in a memorandum of understanding that provides the framework for a six-year contract. The terms also establish incentive compensation opportunities for the team's athletic and academic performance, contingent upon the team having an Academic Performance Rate of 930 or better.

Brohm's fixed annual compensation in 2017 is $3.3 million, including a base university salary of $300,000 and a $3.03 million supplemental stipend. Incentive compensation could total up to $1.3 million if Brohm meets all performance milestones, which include team grade-point average and graduation success rates, Big Ten division and conference finish, and bowl game participation up to the College Football Playoff.

The term summary also includes a compensation pool of $3.5 million for Brohm to hire assistant coaches, as well as a payment to cover the cost of the buyout stipulated in his Western Kentucky University contract.

Brohm, 45, was hired Dec. 5 as the 36th full-time head football coach in Purdue history.

He came to the Boilermakers from Western Kentucky, where he compiled a remarkable 30-10 overall record (.750 winning percentage), including a 19-5 Conference USA mark (.792), from 2014 to 2016. The Hilltoppers were league champions in 2015 and 2016, the first back-to-back titles as an FBS member in school history. They won the 2014 Bahamas Bowl (49-48 over Central Michigan) and the 2015 Miami Beach Bowl (45-35 over Miami, Fla.) and will play in the 2016 Boca Raton Bowl on Dec. 20.

A 14-year collegiate coaching veteran, Brohm served as an assistant coach at Louisville (quarterbacks 2003-06, assistant head coach/passing game 2007, assistant head coach/offensive coordinator 2008), Florida Atlantic (quarterbacks 2009), Illinois (quarterbacks 2010-11), UAB (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks 2012) and Western Kentucky (assistant head coach/offensive coordinator/quarterbacks 2013). He began his career as the head coach of the Louisville Fire in the af2 in 2002.

Also, the trustees approved tax-deferred compensation of $150,000 annually for vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Bobinski, who was hired Sept. 1.
