Week of activities planned for Purdue Homecoming
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University's 2016 Homecoming week will include activities for students, faculty and the public. Activities will include the Homecoming Kickoff, a parade, and Movie on the Hill.
The events include:
* Voting for Homecoming king and queen, for Purdue students only, began Oct. 3 and will conclude at 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 12). Students can vote on boilerlink.purdue.edu. Vote for one king and one queen candidate. A list of candidates along with their activities, involvement and photograph is available.
* Homecoming Kickoff is 3 -7 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 12) on Intramural Gold Field No. 5 (rain location is Purdue Memorial Union South Ballroom). The event will offer a zip line, caricature artist, DJ, crafts and food. The event is free with a Purdue student ID.
* Homecoming Movie on the Hill, featuring a free film, "Ghostbusters," will be at 8 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 13) at Slayter Hill (rain location is Purdue Memorial Union South Ballroom). Popcorn, canned drinks and candy will be available for purchase at the outdoor location. There also will be a superhero costume contest. This event is free for Purdue students and community.
* The Boiler Maker Night Train Parade begins at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 14. The route starts at the corner of Pierce and State streets, and ends at Stadium Ave. and Martin Jischke Drive. The parade will feature floats with both walking and motorized units. The floats will be decorated in this year's theme, "It's a Bird … It's a Train … It's Homecoming 2016!" Parade participants include the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band and student organizations. Purdue police advise that due to traffic restrictions in the area of the parade, the best route to take to get around campus will be U.S. 231.
* Crowning of the Homecoming king and queen will be at 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 15 on the main stage in Stadium Mall.
