Faculty and staff honors:

- Takashi Hibiki, a professor and associate head of Purdue University’s School of Nuclear Engineering, has received the Award for Eminent Achievements in Nuclear Science and Technology from the Atomic Energy Society of Japan. It is the highest honor bestowed by the society for research and honors people who have made major contributions in academic or technical fields related to the peaceful use of atomic energy. Hibiki is specifically being cited for "extensive and outstanding original research contributions to nuclear thermal-hydraulics, instrumentation methods and modeling of two-phase flow." He has authored or co-authored 218 journal papers, 186 conference papers, one book and five book chapters. Hibiki has received numerous national and international awards and honors including a Best Paper Award from the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, a Best Teacher Award from Purdue’s School of Nuclear Engineering, a Distinguished Service Award from the Heat Transfer Society of Japan and a Preeminent Monograph Award from the Japanese Society for Multiphase Flow. Hibiki has been named an Osaka University Global Alumni Fellow and was elected an American Nuclear Society Fellow. He came to Purdue in 2006 from Kyoto University in Japan, where he was an associate professor in the university’s Research Reactor Institute.

- Becky Hershey has received a 2016 Chairman's Award from United Way of Greater Lafayette for demonstrating exceptional leadership during the annual campaign. Hershey, director of Purdue United Way, implemented ePledge, an online pledge system that is more secure and easier to use, in 2016. The ePledge system also eliminates paper pledge cards, which reduces cost and supports sustainability. The award is given annually by the UWGL campaign chair to those who demonstrate leadership during the campaign. The 2016 chair was Maryann Santos, the dean of College of Education at Purdue.
