Purdue to dedicate 980-acre aerospace district, Rolls-Royce facility

WEST LAFAYETTE – Ind. – More than 250 people are expected to attend Thursday’s (March 23) 2:30 p.m. dedication of the 980-acre Purdue Research Park Aerospace District and the 55,000-square-foot Rolls-Royce research and development facility.

The event will take place at 1801 Newman Road, West Lafayette. Rolls-Royce is the first company to move into the Purdue Aerospace District. A lift fan and jet engine will be on display in the facility, and a flyover by an MV-22 Osprey will take place at 3 p.m.

Rolls-Royce and Purdue officials are available to speak with the media, and tours of the facility will take place following the dedication and flyover.

Photos are welcome, and the flyover will make a strong video component.

Earlier in the day, an MV-22 Osprey will on public display at the Purdue University Airport for community members and visitors to view and walk through. The Osprey will come from the Marine Helicopter Squadron One, the Washington D.C., unit that serves the president of the United States. Rolls-Royce provides much of its research and development of the technology for Osprey engines.

The Aerospace District is part of the $1 billion Purdue Innovation District, a partnership between the Purdue Research Foundation and Browning Investments LLC to create an environment for educational, economic, cultural, community and real estate while developing 450 acres at the west end of the Purdue University campus. The $120 million State Street Project will provide critical infrastructure to support and enhance the improvements throughout the Purdue campus and community.
