July seminar to focus on ag finance for non-financial managers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University’s Center for Food and Agricultural Business will host a four-day seminar in July to help non-financial managers better understand how their decisions impact profitability.

Agribusiness Finance for Non-Financial Managers is July 18-21 on the university’s West Lafayette campus. Instructors include Michael Gunderson, associate professor of agricultural economics and associate center director; Michael Boehlje, distinguished professor of agricultural economics; and Jaclyn Kropp, assistant professor of food and resource economics at the University of Florida.

“Sometimes there can be a bit of a disconnect between chief financial officers and non-financial managers,” Gunderson said. “But it doesn’t have to be this way. By learning to speak the CFO’s language, non-financial managers can better communicate the value and projected outcomes of their decisions.”

Program content includes thinking like a CFO, interpreting financial statements, financial evaluation, financial concepts, profitability analysis, and financial management. It is geared toward mid- to upper-level managers who want to develop a better understanding of business from a financial standpoint. Participant responsibilities might include budgets, capital purchases, personnel costs, or other decisions that affect the company’s bottom line.
