WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue has appointed Haley Oliver, associate professor of food science at Purdue University, to the National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF).

Established in 1988, the panel provides scientific advice, peer reviews and impartial expertise to federal food safety agencies on public health issues related to the wholesomeness of domestic, imported and exported foods. It consists of 30 members serving two-year terms. Members include educators, consumers, food industry professionals, researchers and consultants.

“Haley’s appointment to this prestigious committee is recognition of her outstanding work in protecting consumers by identifying foodborne pathogens throughout the food system and developing intervention strategies to improve food safety,” said Brian Farkas, food science department head.

Oliver joined Purdue in 2010 as assistant professor of food science. She was appointed associate professor in 2015. Previously, she served as an adjunct professor at Texas Tech University. She graduated cum laude with bachelor’s degrees in microbiology and molecular biology from the University of Wyoming before earning her Ph.D. in food science from Cornell University.
