What is STAR?

Summer, Transition, Advising, and Registration (STAR) is a program by Student Success Programs for new undergraduate students to receive academic advice, register for initial courses and conduct other important business. Incoming students pick their one-day STAR session and come to campus to complete all formalities.

Who are STAR Ambassadors and what do they do?
  • One of the first Boilermakers that the new students and families get to know
  • Address questions and concerns throughout the day of STAR
  • Assist with check in, registration and other minute-to-minute logistics during all STAR days
  • Troubleshoot any problems that arise and seek assistance whenever required
  • Aid in creating a welcoming experience for the new students and families through STAR.
  • Have fun and gain a much rewarding experience
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate student at Purdue with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application and during the entire STAR experience. (NOTE: If you are selected to be an ambassador and you fail to maintain minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the end of the spring semester, you will unfortunately be dismissed as a STAR ambassador.)
  • Able to and willing to promote Purdue and the Boilermaker experience – in a positive light.
  • Well informed about resources on campus.
  • Reliable, responsible, mature and have a proven willingness to help new students.
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive in their approach.

An ideal candidate would be someone who has the ability to positively promote the Boilermaker experience to new students and families from various backgrounds, is customer-service focused, is able to handle multiple tasks, demonstrate flexibility, can work in laborious and stressful situations and has creative problem solving skills.
