September 8, 2003 Krannert School offers public tours of Rawls HallWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University's Krannert School of Management is having a community open house at the recently completed Jerry S. Rawls Hall from 2-4 p.m. Sunday (9/14). Rawls Hall is the Krannert School of Management's new facility located across from the Krannert Building on the corner of State and Grant streets. It will be officially dedicated on Oct. 2 as part of Homecoming weekend celebrations. The open house, which is free and open to the public, will include guided tours and light refreshments. G. Logan Jordan, the Krannert School associate dean who was part of planning for the building, said the open house started as an event for the construction workers who built Rawls Hall. "We know we have a world-class facility in Rawls Hall, so we felt it would only be fitting to invite the community to an informal open house to see the finished product," Jordan said. "The special guests for the open house are all the workers from the trades, the contractors and Purdue. We want to invite them in, along with their families, to see the completed product they worked so hard and performed so well on." The $35 million, 128,000 square-foot, four-story building has won an architectural design citation from Architectural Portfolio magazine, which cited the building's "center space [that] will be inspiring and at the heart of the school. This design uses massive natural lighting and great open space." The building is named for Jerry S. Rawls, the Krannert School alumnus who made the $10 million lead gift for the building. He is CEO of Finisar Corp., a Silicon Valley optical networking company. The architects for Rawls Hall were Scholer Corp. Architect/Engineers of Lafayette and Goody, Clancy & Associates of Boston. The builder was Wilhelm Construction of Indianapolis.
