Four individuals honored with Apex Award
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University Department of Agricultural Economics honored four recipients with the Apex Award during the 33rd annual James C. Snyder memorial lecture and celebration on April 13.The Apex Award recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions in their field and a strong connection to the department. Apex Award recipients are Gregory Beck of Covington, La.; George Green of Monticello, Ind.; Jeffrey Hale of Brownsburg, Ind.; and Kimseyinga Savadogo of Burkina Faso, Africa.
* Beck, who earned his master's degree in agricultural finance from Purdue, is vice-president of the grain division for Consolidated Grain and Barge (CGB). He is responsible for all grain operations, including marketing and merchandising, facility and plant operations, grain origination, customer relationship management, facility acquisitions, and financial performance. Beck has been involved with CGB committees, focusing on grain origination and new contract concepts for the organization's customers.
* Green received his MBA in food and agribusiness from Purdue and is now the general manager of Excel Co-op. He is active in the Land O' Lakes National Leadership Council, intended to improve communications and assist in setting the direction of Land O' Lakes. He also is president of the board of directors for the Mid America Cooperative Council, promoting co-op education and training.
* Hale, who earned his bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from Purdue, is president and CEO of Symphony Bank. He manages the bank's three functional divisions, including business development, operations and financing. He is involved with the Finance Advisory Council for the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art and the Indianapolis Zoological Society.
* Savadogo received his doctorate degree in agricultural economics from Purdue and is a professor at the University of Ouagadougou. He has assumed the positions of vice dean, dean of the faculty of economics and management, head of the graduate department, and director of the research center. His research interests are in the areas of development and poverty, agricultural productivity and growth, technology adoption, rural institutions and development, food security, food demand, and consumer preferences.
