Illinois firm launches new software division at Purdue Technology Center

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - A Rockford, Ill., software company has launched a new division at the Purdue Technology Center of Northwest Indiana that will serve increased demand from airline, homeland security and other industries and will employ Purdue University student interns.

Balanced IT Solutions, which was founded in 2008, will locate the headquarters of its new software development division at the office in Merrillville, Ind.

Kerry Frank, Balanced IT Solutions business director, said company officials chose the Purdue Technology Center of Northwest Indiana as the site of its software development office for several reasons.

"The site is a great environment in which to network, and it focuses on technology companies," Frank said. "We also value the controlled environment that enables us to focus on our work."

Frank said not only has software development activity for the other divisions increased over the past six months, but the company also has developed software to create paperless technical publications.

"The software originally was created for our aviation division in order to replace the 800-page manuals used by airlines, but through development efforts it now has a broader application to other industries," Frank said. "We are looking for two or three interns this summer to work on continued development of the software. We have released the product in a test site and want interns to work on the final development phases for this product. We hope to sell it to the aviation market by the end of the summer."

Eric Dahlen, vice president of Balanced IT Solutions' software development division, will be in charge of the company's offices at the Purdue Technology Center of Northwest Indiana.

"We anticipate that we will hire additional programmers within the year to work with Eric on software development," Frank said.
