Preparatory work for Academic Success Building in Indianapolis to impact California Street
While construction on the Academic Success Building in Indianapolis is set to begin in April, preparatory work that will close the portion of N. California Street north of W. Michigan Street will begin this month.
During this work, which is expected to last from Jan. 20 through mid-March, access to Sigma Theta Tau (STT) will be maintained from N. Blackford Street and the parking lot north of Gateway Garage. Access to the Gateway Garage will be maintained from N. Blackford Street.
Work is expected to progress on the following timeline but may shift as needed:
- Beginning Jan. 20, the northern most section of N. California Street will close. The parking lot east of the Gateway Garage will be accessible from the southern entrance off W. Michigan Street.
- Beginning Feb. 3, the closure will shift slightly south with access to the parking lot being maintained from the southern entrance off W. Michigan Street.
- Also happening on Feb. 3. the southeast exit of the Gateway Garage will close. This closure will last through the duration of construction, which is scheduled through June 2027.
- Beginning Feb. 24, the closure will shift to immediately north of W. Michigan Street, closing the southern entrance to the parking lot. Access to the parking lot will be available from the northwest via N. Blackford Street. This closure is expected to last through mid-March.
- Additionally, fencing will be installed at the southwest corner of the Gateway Garage from Jan. 27-31. The sidewalk will remain open but pedestrians should be aware of work in the area.
Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution in the area and obey all posted signs.
