Why is a graded quiz attempt not appearing in the gradebook in Brightspace?
When a graded quiz attempt is not appearing in your gradebook, there are several common causes. These causes have been listed in order of most common to least common and it is recommended to review them in order.
- Ensure a grade item is associated with the quiz
- Check the Evaluation & Feedback Settings
- Ensure the quiz grades have been published
- If the quiz grades are hidden from your view
- If the quiz grades are visible to you but not to your students
Ensure A Grade Item Is Associated With The Quiz
- Click Course Tools from the course navigation bar and select Quizzes from the drop-down.
- Click the name of the quiz not appearing in the gradebook.
- If the Grade Out Of section is set to "Not in Grade Book", click the drop-down and select Add to Grade Book.
Check the Evaluation & Feedback Settings
- Click Course Tools from the course navigation bar and select Quizzes from the drop-down.
- Click the name of the quiz not appearing in the gradebook.
- Click to expand the Evaluation & Feedback section on the right.
- Ensure the Synchronize to grade book on publish setting is selected.
Ensure The Quiz Grades Have Been Published
- Click Course Tools from the course navigation bar and select Quizzes from the drop-down.
- Click the drop-down icon to the right of the quiz the grades are not appearing for and select Grade from the drop-down.
- Select all learners who have attempted and received a grade for the quiz. Then click Publish Feedback.
If The Quiz Grade Is Hidden From Your View
- Click Grades from the course navigation bar and locate the grade column where scores are not appearing.
- Click the drop-down to the right of the column title and select Edit.
- Scroll down on the Edit Item page, expand the Display Options section if it is not already, and ensure Managing View is checked. Check Points Grade, Grade Scheme Symbol, and Grade Scheme Color (if desired). Then click Save and Close.
If The Quiz Grades Are Visible To You But Not To Your Students
- Click Grades from the course navigation bar and locate the grade column where scores are appearing for you but not for your students.
- Click the drop-down to the right of the column title and select Edit.
- Click the Restrictions tab. The Availability Start Date and End Date here control the availability (visibility) of the grade item to students. They are unrelated to the availability of the quiz itself. Students will be unable to see the grade item before the Start Date or after the End Date. Ensure these dates are either unchecked or include the dates you would like the grade item to be visible to students.
- Click the Save and Close when finished.
