"Personalized Learning and the Future of Educational Technology"

Recent advances in the cognitive science of learning have important implications for instructional practices at all levels of education. Educational technology is becoming pervasive, yet very little of it is designed around principles of learning from cognitive science. This talk discusses current trends in educational technologies, including personalized online learning systems and MOOCs, and how new advanced learning technologies will impact education in the future.


Bio: Jeffrey D. Karpicke is Purdue's James V. Bradley Associate Professor of Psychological Sciences. He was a 2012 recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, nominated by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education. Karpicke's research sits at the interface between cognitive science and education. The goal of Karpicke's research is to identify effective strategies that promote long-term learning and comprehension.
