Dawn or Doom to host first student organization expo
For the fifth annual conference, the Dawn or Doom team wanted to showcase Purdue students’ involvement in the realm of technology, so we are excited to announce the first Dawn or Doom Student Organization Expo. The expo will take place in the Stewart Center, room 302 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
The expo will showcase student organizations related to technology and innovation; it will give attendees an opportunity to learn more about what students are doing on campus and how to get involved. Each group will have their own table with information, examples of their work, and members to talk about their work.
We already have invited more than 200 high school students to the Dawn or Doom Student Organization Expo to show them what a future as a Boilermaker might look like. All members of the public are welcome to the expo, and here are three reasons why YOU should attend the Student Organization Expo.
1) There will be an actual rocket!
The rocket is thirteen feet in length and was created by Purdue student members of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space club on campus.

2) Opportunity for a robot selfie
Did it really happen if you don’t have photo evidence of the event? If you need something to do between talks why not come check out our robot cutout? Bring a friend and have them take a photo of you by our life size robot. When posting, don’t forget to use the #DawnorDoom hashtag so we can feature you on our live social media stream.

3) Learn what fuels Purdue students' passion
Purdue students have their nose in a book the majority of the time, but what happens when they start working hands on with technology? When you put ambitious minds together, ideas become reality - look at the drones that Purdue Drone Club builds. Byeonghun Kim from EcoMake says, "Everyone knows that Boilermakers are going to build the future. There's no doubt about that. What I want to do with EcoMake is to make sure that they build something with meaning and for a good cause."

Dawn or Doom ’18, part of Purdue’s 150th anniversary celebration, features four tracks: Machines, Mind, Body and Data. Featured speakers at the conference include Frank Pasquale, law professor at the University of Maryland who specializes in artificial intelligence law, Naomi Grewal, global head of insights at Pinterest, and Nicholas Carr, author of New York Times best seller “The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains.” Visit the Dawn or Doom website for more information about the conference and a full list of speakers.
