DISCUSSION THREAD
Any questions??
Discussion and hints:
You need to write down the angular velocity and angular acceleration of the football. Based on what we have been doing up to this point in Chapter 3, hopefully it is clear that the football (and insect) has two components of angular velocity: ω1 about the fixed X-axis and ω2 about the moving x-axis. Take a time derivative of the angular velocity vector to find the angular acceleration of the football (observer).
Which way are ω1 and ω2 rotating with respect to their axes? It's kind of hard to tell from the picture.
w1 is in the + I direction and w2 is rotating in the positive i direction.
I believe they are both rotating CCW with respect to each of their axes.
Should we have our answers in the XYZ coordinates or the xyz coordinate system?
Either way is fine. Whichever you choose should be used through the entire answer.
Will the triangle method we use for cross product is cartesian coordinates apply to xyz coordinate system as well ?
If you are just projecting on the axis, it seems like that's the way to go. Otherwise I'm not sure how you would convert Axis systems.
