The United States’ healthcare system has gone through massive changes in recent years, and the COVID-19 pandemic made it clear healthcare is a dynamic industry where growth is necessary for success. Purdue University’s online Master of Health Administration (MHA) program prepares students to excel in this evolving field by providing practical, market-driven skills training that translates to the real world.
Recently, EduMed, an organization that connects students with online degree programs in healthcare, recognized Purdue’s online MHA program as the No. 1 online healthcare administration degree program for 2023 as well as the No. 6 online MHA program.
EduMed cited the program’s interdisciplinary curriculum, high-quality faculty, and focus on practical skills training as reasons for awarding Purdue the top rankings. The program is also of great value to working healthcare professionals, especially those wanting to move into administration or demonstrate more expertise in their current role.
Purdue’s MHA program can be completed in as few as six semesters and covers a broad range of topics in health administration, including operations, finance, management, information technology and current healthcare industry challenges. Students can customize their education by earning graduate certificates in healthcare leadership, healthcare operations and healthcare quality improvement. All courses in the program are taught by Purdue University faculty who bring years of industry experience to the classroom.
Students in the program gain practical skills by working on a capstone project that tackles real problems faced by healthcare managers. According to Karrah Teruya, a current student in Purdue’s MHA program, the MHA’s focus on practical skills training helps prepare students for jobs in the field, even if they don’t have prior healthcare experience.
“This program is about more than getting a master’s degree; it’s about feeling actually prepared to work in the industry,” Teruya said.
