Admissions Requirements
DNP (blended delivery format)
Post BSN-DNP: BSN Graduates of accredited Nursing program such as Commission on Collegiate Nursing (CCNE) or National League for Nursing (NLN)
Post MSN: Students with MS course credit will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited baccalaureate program in nursing. International students must graduate from a nursing program that has undergone comparable review per AACN Baccalaureate Essentials criteria and achieve a minimum score of 550 (written) or 100 (online) on the TOEFL.
- A minimum undergraduate nursing cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a four-point scale or equivalent "B" average. Note: Applicants not meeting this criterion may be considered for conditional admission status.
- Current licensure as a registered nurse in the state in which practice will occur.
- Evidence of successful completion (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) of an upper-division statistics course (STAT 30100, SOC 38200, SOC 58100, STAT 50100, STAT 51100 or other course deemed comparable by the School of Nursing Admissions Committee) taken within the last five years. Alternately, one may be taken concurrently with the first semester of graduate coursework. Review our math, algebra and statistics tutorials (link to Word document).
- A personal interview may be requested.
- Basic computer competency including word processing and use of the internet.
- Grades in all previous master's coursework of "B" or better.
Application Procedure
The Purdue Graduate School application is completed electronically. Any additional required documents should be sent to:

The following documents must be submitted:
- Graduate School Application Form completed online.
- Two official (original) transcripts from each school attended.
- A 300-500 word essay that addresses your reasons for pursuing the Doctor of Nursing Practice, career goals and practice interests.
- Three letters of recommendation should address the applicant’s clinical ability, work experience, professional nursing contributions, and potential for success in graduate school. (At least one recommendation must be from a professor of nursing. If the applicant has been out of school for more than five years, a letter from a direct manager may be submitted for the professor).
- A curriculum vita or resume.
- A copy of your current registered nurse license.

- The Admissions Committee will select the best-qualified applicants for the DNP programs based on a composite assessment of:
- Academic performance in all coursework taken, with particular emphasis on the sciences (because of their relationship to assessing analytical problem-solving abilities), patterns of course withdrawals and course repeats, and the nature of general education course selections
- Applicant-supplied information and statements on the application form
- Recommendation letters
- Personal interview with faculty, as invited
- Writing and verbal communication skills
- Applicant's initiative to seek out firsthand knowledge about various nursing practice environments
- All applicants will initially be reviewed for evidence of basic qualifications for admission to the graduate program, and the most qualified applicants will be invited for a personal interview.
- Admission will be granted to the most highly qualified applicants based upon School of Nursing resources.
Confirmation of Admission
Recommendations for admission are sent by the School of Nursing within 14 days of Graduate Admissions Committee meetings. Offers of admission are sent by the Purdue University Graduate School and must be accepted within 14 days of the date of the letter of offer.
