Amanda Yuile

I am a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. Before coming to Purdue, I earned a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a M.Sc. in Psychology from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. In my research I explore how children learn language — In a few short years children learn thousands of words and a productive language system that allows them to produce and comprehend sentences that they’ve never heard before. One challenge children face in learning all of this is to link words with their real-world referents. For example, how do children learn who ‘he’ is or what a new word ‘dax’ means? My research explores how children learn to make these links in real-time as sentences unfold.
