Extension Program
The Indiana apple industry is fairly small and is mainly focused on direct retail sales of fruit to consumers at roadside farm markets and at community farmers’ markets.
The goal of the tree fruit extension program is to help growers in Indiana and beyond adopt appropriate new technologies to adapt to a changing world. We help growers implement new management practices, cultivars, rootstocks, and orchard technologies. The goal is for growers to become more labor efficient, customer friendly and to be compliant with new regulatory requirements.
We use a variety of methods to meet the needs of growers, including:
- Indiana Horticultural Congress
- Facts for Fancy Fruit Newsletter
- Field days and demonstrations – see listings in Facts for Fancy Fruit newsletter
