C-PASA participants at a hoop house at the Purdue Student Farm

On Friday, July 12, Vicki Stirm and Karen Mitchell hosted the C-PASA (Cargill- Purdue Agribusiness and Science Academy) High School students. Participants toured the student farm, led by two summer interns. After that, they returned to campus and learned how an orchardist knows when to harvest apples, as well as did a blind taste test of six different apples.

On Thursday, July 18, Karen Sullivan, Vicki Stirm, and Karen Mitchell hosted ”The Beauty of Flowers in Floral Design” for Grandparents’ University. We first talked about the ‘branches’ of horticulture and then each participant created a bud vase arrangement to take home with them. We had 17 youth and 17 grandparents participate. Another session is planned for Thursday, July 25th.
