The Nemali lab organized the ‘Hydroponics for Everyone’ workshop (paid program) on four Saturdays in June. Community members from many regions of Indiana participated in the program. Participants visited HLA and greenhouses from 9 am to 3 pm each day and learned about environmental requirements (production systems, light, water, nutrients, and temperature) and crop production (leafy greens, tomato, strawberry, and spring bulbs) in hydroponic systems. They also grew leafy greens and microgreens using the knowledge gained from different modules of the workshop. Special thanks to Ms. Lori Jolly-Brown for communications, printed materials, and organizing lunches for participants!

“The class was a perfect size ~10 students, and very interactive. Dr. Nemali and Sangrak Son explained, answered questions, and showed us everything we needed to know to grow hydroponically. Every system was thoroughly explained from seeds, sowing, growing media, fertilizer guidelines, measuring nutrients, light intensity, and harvesting. We even discussed how to increase production and how to make more money.
I loved the workshop and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in hydroponically growing crops.”
