Purdue Student Farm Student Spotlight: Kennedy Jean

Hi, I’m Kennedy. I am a senior in Sustainable Food and Farming Systems, with minors in Horticulture and Plant Biology, and a certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

This past summer was my second season at the Student Farm. I am also the unofficial collector of some of the “mutant” vegetables that pop up on the farm sometimes.

I am from Lafayette, Indiana, and had gone to Purdue for countless events during my childhood, so I knew I wanted to go here. I didn’t grow up on a farm, but I do enjoy gardening and caring for plants. I have a small garden at home.

I think my time interning at the Student Farm has been one of the most fun things I have done. I enjoy learning how to help grow and care for everything and actually do what I have been learning in the classroom, and seeing how all the produce ends up in the CSA. I have also had fun discovering all the different wild plants and animals that we come across all the time. I have so many neat pictures of toads, flowers, and stuff like that.

After graduation, I hope to come back to get a master’s degree in Horticulture. After that, I am not 100% sure, I will see where the road takes me.
