Ian Hyatt

Chief of Staff  

Ian Hyatt was named chief of staff to Purdue University President Mung Chiang on July 1, 2024. He oversees strategic university initiatives under the guidance of the president and with input from the Board of Trustees, senior leadership and organizational unit leaders throughout the university. Additionally, Hyatt assists in decision-making, conflict resolution and emergency management, while refining protocols and procedures for efficiency and productivity. 

Previously, Hyatt was Purdue’s chief information officer and vice president of information technology from June 2021 to June 2024. He led IT services across the Purdue system, which includes cybersecurity, end user experience, IT enterprise reporting, IT infrastructure services, academic IT services and distributed campus services, as well as research services and support. 

Prior to Purdue, Hyatt was the vice president of global services, logistics and fleet for IGT Providence and held several other vice president roles within IGT. He also served as the state command chief master sergeant in the United States Air Force and Rhode Island Air National Guard until his retirement in April 2022, capping a distinguished 37-year military career. 

In 2023, Hyatt was recognized as a Tech Exec of the Year by the Indianapolis Business Journal and named among the Top 10 Education CIOs by Education Technology Insights as well as the EdScoop 50 Higher Education IT Executives of the Year. He also earned Cisco’s 2024 Transformation Trailblazer Award.
