Tier 1 HealthSync is a network of providers who offer quality care at the lowest rates available.
Like our tiered lab benefit, your health plan networks are tiered to save you money on all Purdue health plans. You have three network levels (tiers):
- HealthSync (tier 1) saves you the most
- In-network, but not HealthSync (tier 2) are available at a slightly higher cost
- Out-of-network (tier 3) gives you additional access, but you will pay the most out-of-pocket for these providers.
To find a Tier 1 HealthSync provider, go to anthem.com and click on the Find Care tab. Be sure to log in or create an account if you don’t already have one. When you search for a provider, the Anthem system will automatically show the tier for each provider.
When you need care, you can choose providers from one of three networks. Each network offers a different level of coverage, but you will always receive the highest level of coverage and pay the least out of pocket when you choose Tier 1 HealthSync.
How the Three Tiers Work
Your medical plan is divided into three levels of care. Tier 1 HealthSync provides the lowest costs and a more coordinated care experience. Tier 2 includes other in network providers and offers moderate costs. Tier 3 includes out of network providers and is the most expensive option, with the potential for additional charges not covered by your plan.
How to Find a Tier 1 HealthSync Provider
You can find a Tier 1 provider by visiting the Anthem website and searching within the HealthSync network. This tool helps you identify doctors, specialists, and facilities that offer the highest level of coverage.
How Costs Work with Tier 1 HealthSync
With Tier 1 HealthSync, you have the flexibility to receive care from both Tier 1 and Tier 2 providers, and most providers in Indiana are included in these networks. All eligible medical expenses, including prescriptions, count toward both your Tier 1 and Tier 2 deductibles.
Once you meet your Tier 1 deductible, you pay only ten percent of the cost for Tier 1 services, while your plan covers the remaining ninety percent. Tier 1 deductibles are typically much lower than those in Tier 2 or out of network care, helping you save money sooner.
After you reach your Tier 1 out of pocket maximum, all Tier 1 services are covered at one hundred percent. However, you will continue to pay for prescriptions and Tier 2 services until you meet your Tier 2 deductible and out of pocket maximum.

What care providers are in the HealthSync network?
The HealthSync network includes more than 10,000 healthcare providers and 45 top hospitals throughout Indiana, including Purdue’s Center for Healthy Living located on all three campuses. Franciscan Health, Lutheran Health Network and Ascension St. Vincent are also included in Tier 1.
What are the financial advantages of HealthSync?
Purdue employees can expect to pay less for services when using a HealthSync provider. In addition, you will have lower plan costs including:
- Lower deductibles
- Lower co-insurance
- Lower out-of-pocket maximums
How can I maximize my savings?
- Your medical expenses will count toward your HealthSync and in-network deductible.
- This includes charges from HealthSync providers, in-network Anthem providers and prescriptions.
- Once you reach your HealthSync deductible, coinsurance for HealthSync providers is 90/10.
- Once you reach your HealthSync out-of-pocket maximum, HealthSync providers will be covered 100%.
- In-network providers and prescriptions will continue to apply toward your in-network deductible and in-network out-of-pocket maximum.
Do I have to use Tier 1 HealthSync?
No. You are not required to use HealthSync providers. HealthSync is designed as the most cost-effective network level (Tier 1), but you have access to Tier 2 (In-Network) and Tier 3 (Out-of-Network) providers.
