Purdue Academic Course Transformation (IMPACT)

We are now accepting applications for our Spring 2025 IMPACT Semester and December 2024 offering of IMPACT Week for Purdue WL and Purdue in Indianapolis instructors. 

All versions of IMPACT use a cohort-based model built around a strong faculty learning community (FLC).

Semester

  • 13-session, semester-long program
  • Offers our deepest dive into designing an engaging, student-centered course
  • Completed in person or remotely
  • Offered each Fall and Spring semester
  • Begins the second week of the semester and ends the week before finals
  • Weekly, 75-minute synchronous sessions with colleagues and support members
  • An estimated time commitment of 3-4 hours per week over the semester
  • A great option for those wanting to examine and align each element of their course, with input and support from their peers and our instructional design team
  • Open to instructors of record who are faculty or staff at Purdue WL or Purdue in Indianapolis who plan to teach the course for multiple semesters
  • Upon completion of 3 major deliverables, comes with a $10,000 incentive to support their teaching

Month

  • 5-week program
  • An option for those unable to commit to an entire semester yet want to dive deeper than IMPACT Week
  • Can be completed in-person or remotely, or a combination of the two
  • Offered by request only - departments or units may request this option for a group of instructors to go through as a cohort
  • May be tailored to focus on special initiatives or topics relevant to the requesting group
  • Covers core IMPACT content via Brightspace and involves synchronous sessions where instructors discuss and engage in activities related to that week’s topic
  • An estimated 3-4 hours per week over the month of the program
  • Open to groups of faculty or staff instructors at Purdue WL and Purdue in Indianapolis
  • Deliverables and incentives are dependent on the goals of the requesting unit

Week

  • 7-day, intensive experience
  • Covers the core topics of designing an engaging, student-centered course
  • Completed fully remotely
  • Offered each May and December
  • One week of facilitation + one week following to submit all deliverables
  • Content is completed asynchronously with optional, daily, synchronous “Coffee Talks” with colleagues and support team
  • An estimated time commitment of 3-5 hours per day during the facilitated week
  • Can serve as an introduction to IMPACT, a refresher for past Fellows, or a chance to check in on your course plan
  • Open to graduate students, faculty, and staff instructors at Purdue WL and Purdue in Indianapolis
  • Upon completion of the six reflection assignments, participants receive a $1,000 incentive to support their teaching
