New Teaching & Learning Community of Practice programming begins Sept. 9
All Purdue West Lafayette instructors, staff, and students are invited to join the Teaching and Learning Community of Practice (TLCoP) for its first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 9, 3-4 p.m. in STEW 320. The newly formed community is dedicated to exploration, discussion, and creation that improves teaching and learning at Purdue.
Registration is encouraged for TLCoP’s inaugural meeting, during which participants will examine how adapting to a pandemic has changed the ways we think about, approach, and carry out teaching. Attendees will be encouraged to reflect on their own experiences, hear from others, and explore what the “new normal†for teaching and learning may look like at Purdue.
While resources exist across campus for instructors to learn more about teaching or to refine their pedagogical practice, TLCoP (pronounced “teel-copâ€) serves as an important peer learning opportunity for Boilermakers who are passionate about teaching. TLCoP’s inaugural faculty facilitator is Lindsay Hamm, lecturer in the Department of Sociology, and 2021 Excellence in Instruction Award for Lecturers winner. Monthly meetings offer instructors the unique opportunity to come together in an ongoing, flexible, and supportive environment to engage in conversation about a range of teaching and learning issues, including:
- Tuesday, Oct. 19, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. noon, online. The focus will be on Artificial Intelligence in Support of the Curriculum,
- Thursday, Dec. 9, 3-4 p.m. in STEW 320. The topic is Debriefing the semester: Lessons Learned and Brainstorming Our Spring Semester.
Registration and further details on these events and the community of practice are available on the TLCoP website.
TLCoP is part of the Innovative Learning hub approach to connect PWL instructors to the resources they need to engage students, develop courses in any instructional modality, and enhance learning across the University. Members include the Center for Instructional Excellence, Libraries and the School of Information Studies, Purdue Online and Teaching and Learning Technologies.
