Assessment – Short Scales
Troika Venn Model
The Troika Venn Model shows the interrelationship among global learning, civic engagement and intercultural knowledge and competence concepts related the global competency development. The model was developed to be used in conjunction with formative assessments which were developed using the definitions and descriptions of each component identified on the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) VALUE Rubrics for each construct.
Each assessment is in the form of a Short Scale using Bloom’s Affective Domain as 6 point Likert type scale to assess student and program outcomes associated with global learning, civic engagement and intercultural knowledge and competence activities.
Short Scales
There are two versions of these short scales. The regular version (S2) has a six point Likert Scale based on Bloom’s Affective Domain to use as an ordinal scale for teaching and formative assessment of the three corresponding rubrics of the Association of American Colleges and Universities VALUE Rubric Development Project. Please see:
https://www.aacu.org/value/rubrics.
The PLUS version (S2+) includes the same six point Likert Scale, but additionally students do critical thinking, and provide extra qualitative data using reflective writing based on description, interpretation, and evaluation.
Please note these scales are intended to be teaching tools and for formative assessment and not for summative evaluation.
Disclaimer: The Civic Engagement Short Scale (C.E.S2) and the Civic Engagement Short Scale PLUS (C.E.S2+) are not intended to replace any other assessment or rubric. The validity and reliability of these short scales have not yet been established.
Disclaimer: The Global Learning Short Scale (G.L.S2) and the Global Learning Short Scale PLUS (G.L.S2+) are not intended to replace any other assessment or rubric. The validity and reliability of these short scales have not yet been established.
Disclaimer: The Intercultural Attitudes, Skills, and Knowledge Short Scale (A.S.K.S2) is not intended to replace any other assessment or rubric. The validity and reliability of this short scale have not yet been established. The psychometrically validated Intercultural Developmental Inventory (IDI) is highly recommended.
