April instructional workshops highlight Brightspace, web conferencing, videos
The Innovative Learning Team at West Lafayette, the Office of Instructional Technology and the Center for Faculty Excellence at Purdue Northwest, and the Purdue Fort Wayne Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) offer several workshops and sessions in April to help instructors prepare their course exams and grades in Brightspace, use web conferencing, and repurpose instructional videos.
Purdue West Lafayette
Workshops at West Lafayette next month focus on preparing our faculty for the end of the semester. Both scheduled workshops will be offered twice during the month. Register by clicking on the session heading or go to the calendar view for the entire month.
Brightspace Exams
Mar. 30, 1-1:50 p.m., Apr. 12 3-3:50 p.m.
Prepare for finals by attending this online workshop on conducting exams in Brightspace. Topics covered for this session are setting up exams, creating or important questions, including a review of available question types, and how to post grades and other submission views. There will be time at the end of the session for questions.
Finalizing Your Brightspace Gradebook
Apr. 8, 10-10:50 a.m., Apr. 21, 2-2:50 p.m.
This workshop will go over some of the most common questions we receive about grading and organizing the gradebook in Brightspace, as well as, how to use the grade push tool to send your grades back to Banner/MyPurdue.
Active Learning Community of Practice (ALCoP)

Summer Session instructors will share their ideas and experiences working with this unique population of learners at PWL.
Teaching and Learning Technologies continues to offer their daily drop-in help sessions through April. These first-come, first-serve sessions allow faculty to get questions answered immediately by one of our Educational Technology Consultants. The sessions are offered on Mondays from 1-2 p.m., Tuesdays 10-11 a.m., Wednesdays 9-10 a.m., Thursdays 2-3 p.m., Friday 10-11 a.m.

Using Web Conferencing tools to Support Student Learning

Join the session to learn different ways for using Web Conferencing tools to support student learning. The facilitators will also discuss with the participants the major features and limitations of each university-supported tool, including WebEx and Zoom.
Brightspace Gradebook Open Lab
Apr. 14, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
During this open lab, we will answer questions related to the Gradebook in Brightspace.
So you need a Peer Review… What now?

In this session, the Peer Review Team will prepare you for a meaningful peer review experience. Participants will learn what to expect during the peer review process and how to maximize the benefits of the peer review experience. Presenters will also share helpful resources and provide guidance for what to do after the peer review.
CELT Workshop Special Requests and After Hours Requests
CELT is available to develop and deliver customized workshops, including evenings and Saturdays, upon request for small groups of a minimum of 4 attendees.

Discussion on Student Cheating and Related Technology Tips

Join your colleagues and representatives from the Office of Instructional Technology, the Center for Faculty Excellence, and the Dean of Students to discuss issues related to and strategies to prevent students’ cheating and violations of academic integrity. There will be no formal presentation, instead it is an opportunity to engage in open dialogue with colleagues on these important topics. Relevant technology resources and tips will also be shared.
Promotion and Tenure Information Session

Faculty are invited to attend an informational session regarding the Promotion and Tenure process at PNW. The session will include an overview of the P&T process, breakout groups for faculty at different stages in the process, and a panel discussion with faculty who recently served on P&T review committees.
