Spring 2022 instructors can receive help getting ready for classes by attending workshops, forums, and drop-in sessions that begin the first week in January and continue throughout the month. The following sessions are offered by the Innovative Learning Team at West Lafayette, the Office of Instructional Technology and Center for Faculty Excellence at Purdue Northwest, and the Purdue Fort Wayne Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT).

Starting Your Brightspace Course Off On the Right Foot

Want to make sure the first week of class goes smoothly? This workshop will help. This session will review the steps faculty should take to ensure that their courses are ready on the first day of class. Presenters will cover some of the most common issues that come into Teaching and Learning Technologies about Brightspace courses at the start of each semester, with a focus on ensuring that your course reflects the work you’ve put in to make it perfect.
Student Centered Accessibility

Want to learn more about how to make your classes accessible? This workshop will get you started. Purdue is committed to ensuring that all courses and course materials are accessible to students, regardless of their needs. This workshop will provide a wide-ranging overview of the accessibility policies and resources at PWL. The session includes a review of the current university accessibility standard, how it applies to classroom learning, and some important steps to take to ensure that your classes are accessible.
This workshop is open and relevant to faculty from all Purdue campuses.

January’s T&L Forum is focused on early semester instructional resources. Heather Servaty-Seib, associate vice provost for teaching and learning, will be joined by members of Innovative Learning, Protect Purdue, Libraries, Disability Resource Center, Student Success, and other panelists who will each briefly share updates to resources, educational technologies, and support available to instructors and their students.
TLT at Purdue West Lafayette will also be offering extended drop-in support hours during the first two weeks of January. These sessions offer immediate, expert assistance for faculty as they grade final exams and assignments and submit final grades (along with other questions about Brightspace or other tools).

Creating and Managing Group Discussions in Brightspace

Video Express Room Workshop

Video Express allows you to:
- Easily and efficiently produce high-quality videos
- Integrate PowerPoints, movie files, websites, and screen captures directly into videos
- Toggle between broadcasting yourself and content
- Mark up content as you lecture

During this one-hour session, participants will learn the main functions of the Video Express room to create instructional videos. We will also discuss with the participants the pedagogical benefits of different settings.

Brightspace Rubrics Basics

After Identifying Students at Risk of Failing Your Course – Now What?
