Apply now for IMPACT Week in May, IMPACT Semester in Fall

PWL instructors of record are invited to apply for two upcoming programs: IMPACT Week and IMPACT Semester.

Both versions are part of Purdue University IMPACT (Instruction Matters: Purdue Academic Course Transformation), an innovative, award-winning faculty development program aimed at transforming the way courses are taught. IMPACT is designed to promote student success by creating a more engaging and interactive learning environment that utilizes evidence-based teaching practices. Interested instructors may apply for either or both using this Qualtrics application.

IMPACT Week, Mon.-Fri., May 8-19, is a fully remote option that covers the core topics of the IMPACT program in an intensive, one-week experience, followed by a week to complete any remaining modules and reflection assignments. The time commitment is estimated to be 3-5 hours per day during the week of May 8-12, with the flexibility to finish over the following week. IMPACT Week comes with a $1,000 incentive to support the instructor’s teaching, upon completion of program deliverables.

IMPACT Semester is a 13-session Faculty Learning Community (FLC) program that begins the first week of the fall 2023 semester and ends the week before finals, with weekly, 75-minute synchronous sessions. This is IMPACT’s deepest dive into course design, with a time commitment estimated at 3-4 hours per week over the course of the semester. This option is open to instructors of record who are faculty or staff at PWL and, upon completion of three major deliverables, comes with a $10,000 incentive to support their teaching.

Launched by the Office of the Provost in 2011, IMPACT is a large, collaborative initiative on the Purdue West Lafayette campus. To date, more than 450 PWL instructors have participated in IMPACT Semester, influencing the design of more than 2,000 courses in all 10 PWL colleges. Nine out of 10 PWL undergraduates will enroll in at least one IMPACT-influenced course by the time they graduate. The Office of the President identified IMPACT as a component of the Purdue Moves initiatives in 2013. IMPACT is also integrated into the Purdue Provost’s Road Map for Transformative Undergraduate Education and the Innovation College.
