The Innovative Learning Team at West Lafayette, the Center for Faculty Excellence and the Office of Instructional Technology at Purdue Northwest, and the Purdue Fort Wayne Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) offer several workshops and sessions in May to help instructors with Brightspace, Poll Everywhere, quizzes, and transparency in teaching.

Starting Your Brightspace Course Off On the Right Foot
Thurs., May 11, 10-11 a.m. ET
Want to make sure the first week of class goes smoothly? This workshop will help.
This session will review the steps faculty should take to ensure that their courses are ready on the first day of class. Presenters will cover some of the most common issues that come in to Teaching and Learning Technologies about Brightspace courses at the start of each semester, with a focus on ensuring that your course reflects the work you’ve put in to make it perfect.
-Discover common issues with course release in Brightspace.
-Learn how to check your assignments, quizzes and gradebook for errors.
-Learn how to send out an announcement to students prior to the start of the semester.
-Know how to use the Demo Student to preview course materials and layout.

Seeking assistance with your Brightspace course? Have questions about a TLT-supported technology? This includes tools such as Gradescope, Kaltura, Circuit, iClicker, Hotseat, Respondus LockDown Browser/Monitor, and Variate. Daily drop-in sessions are offered every weekday throughout the semester. Poll Everywhere Presenter Training: New Visual Redesign Overview
Tue., May 9, 11 a.m.-12 noon ET
Poll Everywhere has released visual redesign changes to the presenter interface! During this one-hour session, you will receive an overview of the visual updates to the Poll Everywhere activity types. The PFW Ed Tech team representatives will be present to answer Brightspace integration-related questions. Please take a look at this link to preview the new design.

Brightspace New Quiz Creation Experience Workshop
Thurs., May 11, 9-10 a.m. ET
Brightspace now has a new-look for its quiz creation interface, which streamlines the process for instructors to create quizzes. Join us for a sneak peak of the new changes. During the session, CELT consultants will preview the new interface, its new settings, and answer questions from participants. The second-half of the workshop will provide hands-on opportunities for faculty to use the new creation experience with the support from our CELT consultants.

TILT Workshop Series

The Transparency in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education project (TILT Higher Ed) is an award-winning national educational development and research project that helps faculty to implement a transparent teaching framework that promotes college students’ success. Join your colleagues in learning about TILT and how to apply the TILT framework to your assignments in this two-part series workshop. Part 1: Introduction to TILT and Part 2: TILTing your Own Assignments. Workshops are offered in-person as well as virtually throughout the summer.

Writing Retreat

A writing retreat provides a focused block of time and supportive environment for you to commit to and have some level of accountability for accomplishing a research goal. There will be no planned programming, instead it will be a time for you to focus on your research/writing goals and hopefully be very productive! The Writing Retreat is virtual via Zoom.

New Quiz Experience Express Training
Thurs., May 11, 9-9:30 a.m. CT
The Office of Instructional Technology will be hosting a virtual training to highlight the new quiz features in Brightspace. New features include a streamlined layout and the option to adjust the number of questions per page. We will also have an open Q & A after the demonstration.

Foundational Technology for Faculty

Explore the core components of instructional technology in the Foundational Faculty Training module in the PNW Brightspace Instructor Training Course. These self-paced topics include: creating Brightspace content and communication, flexibility in modality, grading, and using activities. Earn a badge for each completed area. This module is part of a series of competencies created for you by the Office of Instructional Technology.

Functional Technology for Faculty

Advance beyond the core components of getting started in Brightspace in the Functional Faculty Training module in the PNW Brightspace Instructor Training Course. These self-paced topics include: lecture capture; course transparency using communication, grade book settings, and organization; and efficiency in Brightspace. Earn a badge after sharing to the discussion board. This module is part of a series of competencies created for you by the Office of Instructional Technology.
