Purdue University West Lafayette Teacher Education Program (Graduate and Undergraduate) is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the State of Indiana.
Purdue University Teacher Education Program Completers, who seek licensure and employment outside of the United States, within a US territory, and/or a state other than Indiana can expect further licensure requirements and testing. Purdue University West Lafayette Teacher Education Program Completers who have met Indiana licensure requirements may attain an Indiana Professional Educators license.
The State of Indiana is a signee of the 2020-2025 National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement. Other signees include the District of Columbia (DC), Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA), Guam, and 49 states. As cited within this agreement, signees agree to issue some form of authorization allowing an Indiana licensure holder to legally teach or offer service, provided the license issued by Indiana is acceptable under the agreement.
These unique authorizations may impose additional requirements which need to be accomplished within a designated time frame before the Indiana licensed educator can be granted a permanent license. These additional requirements are known as “Jurisdiction Specific Requirements (JSRs).” Additional requirements will vary based upon the educator’s years of experience. Some jurisdictions define themselves as “full reciprocity.” Visit this link to discern these distinctions. The Interstate Agreement is not a collection of 2-way agreements of reciprocal acceptance. It does not guarantee that all licensure/certificate titles will be accepted by the receiving state. Each authorization and associated requirements are subject to change.
For details on reciprocity agreements and contact information for the individual state, District of Columbia, and/or US Territory within which you permanently reside or seek to pursue employment as a licensed educator, reference the drop-down menu below.
