Request for Developer File and Deploy Access Standard
Purpose
This standard defines how requests for developer access to server and resource entities maintained by Web Services should be made, who is authorized to make these requests, and when these requests will be granted.
Brief Description
Website owners are identified when a website is requested. They may request access and permissions for others including the permission to add developers. Access requests are handled by contacting Web Services.
Details
Website Owners
When a website is initially requested, one or more people will be identified as the owners of the site. These people are authorized to make administrative decisions for the website and may request access for others or transfer control to new owners. Regardless of other permission settings or delegations, website owners retain complete administrative control.
It is the responsibility of a website owner to inform Web Services of any change of ownership. It is also the responsibility of a website owner to ensure that at least two current Purdue employees (or one employee and one contractor) have developer access to the website.
Who can request access?
Access to a website for purposes of development and deployment may be granted by the owner of the website. The owner may grant other permissions to a developer such as the permission to add other developers, request changes to data sources, etc. Developers who have been granted permission to add developers may themselves grant a subset of their permissions to these new developers. Only the owner may grant the permission to add developers.
How to request access?
A website owner or developer with the proper permission may request access for themselves or others by contacting Web Services.
Access to Linux systems may require the submission of a Unix Account Request Form, if the developer does not already have such an account on the requested server.
If you are looking for access to the Cascade Content Management System, please contact the Purdue IT Service Desk. Access to a site in Cascade does not grant access to the files of a site nor to the Deploy Tool to deploy the site. File and Deploy access must be requested separately for each user.
How can I request access for an external contractor?
Please use the Request for Privileges process to get a Purdue Career Account for your contractor. Each individual should get their own Career Account. Then request developer access for that Career Account as you would for any Purdue personnel.
How long does an access request take?
Once access is requested, a Unix Account Request Form (if needed) is received, and all approvals granted, access requests will be fulfilled in 1-2 business days.
How can I find the owner or developers for a site?
To review ownership and developer access for a site, please visit Service Reports (Purdue login required).
