STORYLINE

Kossek says it can be hard for some people to have equal work and nonwork relationships due to the way society is structured and that work/life inequality comes about when people have a job that does not allow for a healthy work/life balance. This inequality can be due to a lack of benefits, inflexible working hours, or having a job that is mentally or physically draining. During the pandemic, jobs such as nurses and grocery workers were required to continue working while others had the opportunity to safely work from home. Kossek also points out that the switch to working remotely has led to an overlap of work and home life and has made it more difficult to maintain a healthy work/life balance.
