WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —

A video featuring Aaron Lottes, an associate professor of engineering practice in biomedical engineering at Purdue University, has been uploaded to the AP Video Hub.

In the video, he provides an update on the Pfizer vaccine for children under the age of 5. All videos in the Campus Insights series are free for download and use by all AP members and can be found at apvideohub.ap.org or by doing a general search on the Associated Press site. AP members may use the video or to pull quotes for print article or for broadcast or podcast.

STORYLINE

Lottes walks through the differences between Emergency Use Authorization and full FDA approval. The original two doses planned for the 2-4-year-old age group did not perform as well as expected, and a third dose was added to the process. Pfizer submitted a request to extend the current emergency authorization to include treatment of children from 6 months up to 5 years of age. The meeting scheduled to come to a decision on this request has been delayed until April. This delay will allow the FDA to more carefully review the vaccine, including results from tests that use a third dose.
